The Squirrel X1 can accommodate 4.2 pounds of seed and has a wide mouth for easy filling. The lovely satin nickel finish will complement any outdoor décor and blend in nicely with nature.Great defense against squirrels.Select the seed to attract your favorite birds.Constant food at every port.Four integrated metal perches.Wide mouth top for easy filling.Hanging Your Seed FeederFeeders can be either hung from a strong branch/shepherd’s hook or they can be pole or post mounted. In any case, select a location that is near enough to tree/bushes that adequate escape cover (from predators) is accessible for your feeding birds. The feeder should be at least four to five feet from the ground, this will help keep it out of reach from marauding raccoons and other critters. Be careful not to place your feeder too close to large windows, this will help prevent collisions on your windows, and this also allows your birds more escape flight routes when predators show up. Take into consideration where you will be typically viewing your birds from, and this line-of-sight is also important for monitoring the seed/nectar levels in your feeders. If you are planning to photograph your feathered friends while they feed, consider a location where there is at least partial sunlight available.Cleaning the FeederRemove locking metal roof by squeezing the plastic tabs located under the rim and lifting. Hand wash with warm water and a mild antibacterial soap. Rinse thoroughly and let dry completely before refilling with seed.More Birds Birdfeeders by Classic BrandsClassic Brands is a family-owned, company with over 100 years of management and design experience in the birding industry. I had my doubts about this feeder, but I figured I would give it a try. I am glad I did. First it is a great size feeder holding a great amount of seed but even better is that there has been about 20 squirrel's that have tried to get at this feeder and even the ones that sit on the deck railing and reach up do not get at the seed. The feeder is attached to a pole next to my deck and the bottom of the feeder is about 15 inches higher than the top deck railing. The squirrel's will either reach up and grab the bottom which then closes the openings of the seed ports OR the squirrels will climb on top of the feeder which then closes the seed ports. The songbirds love the feeder and are always on it (That is more due to the type of seed then the feeder) but every time the squirrel's go to it, they fail. I have had the feeder up for about two months and have yet to see a single squirrel get at any seed. Also, I can go sometimes 3 days before needing to add seed to it since it holds over 4 lbs. of seed. Great feeder but keep in mind that if there is anything next to the feed that will allow a squirrel to sit or hang on without putting their weight on the feeder itself then you will run the risk of a squirrel reaching at the seed ports and being able to eat the seed. My feed is hanging above my deck rail so the squirrels will either have to reach up (about 15") at the feeder or climb down on top of the feeder. Either situations will make the weight of the squirrel pull down or press down on the feeder which then closes the seed ports.
